Preparation courses in Hungary
Some international students may not be able to attend a degree in Hungary because their previous studies do not match the academic system of the country. To be allowed to take an undergraduate or graduate degree in Hungary, they will need to enrol in a one-year pre-Bachelor or pre-Master offered by a local university.
Popular foundation degree studies in Hungary include pre-law degrees, pre-MBA courses, pre-medicine, pre- nursing studies, or other types of international foundation programmes in engineering, economics, finance, social science, science and other types of university pathway programmes. Preparation courses in Hungary include academic English language training to help international students meet university language requirements for future undergraduate or graduate studies.
Foundation degrees in early years in Hungary are perfect for increasing your chances of getting accepted to a Hungarian university. Pre-university business schools, law schools or med schools make sure international students develop the skills they need to succeed in the Hungarian academic system. If the language of instruction is English, you will be requested to prove your level of command of the English language. For this purpose, you may present the results obtained at internationally recognized examinations, such as the IELTS \ TOEFL test, or pass an exam at the Hungarian institution where you will be studying.

What are the English language requirements for a foundation degree?
Higher education institutions need to make sure that your English language skills are up to the level demanded by university studies. All international students who want to sign up for a preparation course taught in English are required to prove sufficient English language proficiency.IELTS or TOEFL preparation are the most commonly accepted English language tests, but other options may also be offered (for example PTE-Pearson Test of English or Cambridge). Usually, the preferred English level varies depending on the degree course students apply for. According to a recent research study made by StudyPortals, most universities worldwide accept:
Minimum overall IELTS score of 5.0 - 33.56% of preparation courses require this band score.
The most common general accepted TOEFL score is an average of IBT 71 or around 530 for the paper- based test.
Preparation courses for Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees are suitable for a wide range of abilities in spoken or written English and include interactive learning, self-study, assignments, projects and online activities.
Exceptions from English language tests
The following candidates may be exempt from the English language requirement:
Students who have completed their previous education in English, depending on the nationality or the country where their previous qualifications were completed. The prerequisite condition is to provide a statement or certificate issued by the Registrar (or equivalent) of that institution confirming this.

Applications for visa and residence permit for Hungary can be filed at the Hungarian Embassy in the candidate's country of permanent residence. Non-EU students need a study visa for the duration of their studies, while EU students only require a residence permit.
Requirements for a Visa application:
Applicant’s passport and copy with a minimum one year validity;
A filled visa application form
Parent's or guardian’s bank statements
Commitment letter from the parent or guardian that he or she will support the student during his / her education in Hungary
Proof of sufficient funds
The documents certifying subsistence in Hungary (bank account statement; or the declaration of the parents or student for 3 months that they assume coverage of all costs of the stay in Hungary
Proof of sufficient funds to cover living expenses in the form of bank assurance/statement

Proof of registration to the university
Letter from college that the applicant is exempt from the payment of school fees or that he/she has already paid the tuition fees.
Visa fee
A travel health insurance for the whole period of stay.
Two passport size photographs.
A wholly and legibly completed, signed “residence permit” application form (can be downloaded from the website of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs -www.kulugyminiszterium.hu).

Living in Hungary

Monthly public transport pass is about 30 EUR, while a student pass is about 13 EUR.
The cost of student accommodation in Hungary is lower than most Western European Countries and Scandinavia.
Rent for a one-bedroom apartment outside a city centre averages at 150 EUR, about the same as utilities.
A meal at an inexpensive restaurant costs about 5 EUR.
Old medieval castles can be found all over the country, many of which function as hotels.
